Incremental online publication of the LMS newsletter

Filed under: Uncategorized — Alexandre Borovik @ 10:17
From this week the LMS are doing incremental publishing of the Newsletter which means that items are put up once the copy has been checked and rights issues sorted, rather than waiting to the end of the month.
Please have a look at:
(there is a link from the LMS front page).

  1. This is a good thing, and I definitely support this move. However, how can one know whether something has been added, without going through all the items one by one?
The website would be nicer (in my opinion) with the addition of an “RSS feed” feature to which one could subscribe, so that one could efficiently run through the latest additions.

  2. RSS feeds, etc. are planned for the new website that is currently under development.

  3. The html newsletter is nice, but here’s a small thing that needs fixing. Look at any one of the sections in the newsletter, such as “News”:

    http://www.lms.ac.uk/newsletter/05.html

At the top of the page there is a table of contents for that section – that is, a list of several subsections (six of them, in this case). But the subsections do not appear in the same order that they’re listed. This is confusing.

The problem seems to occur in most or all sections of the newsletter.

  4. On closer inspection, I see what the problem is. The table of contents at the top of each page gets put in alphabetical order, for some reason, whereas the actual content doesn’t.
