  1. Well, I can spot a broken item already: On the lower left, there is a box with heading “Paper Submission”: you can press left and right buttons to scroll between “Publications” and “Algebraic Number Theory”. Well, the text doesn’t wrap correctly, so you can’t read it all…

Oh dear: actually, this is because I’m using Firefox (latest version, 3.6.12). The website looks fine if I use Internet Explorer 8. Sigh.

  2. Please note that this bug has now been fixed. I will be monitoring comments on this blog and reporting any glitches/bugs spotting by members. We are also looking out for them too.

  3. I think the new website looks and feels very nice! It seems like the main things – in particular journals – are easy to find and get to, and the website looks beautiful without distracting from the content. Well done to everyone who was involved in setting this up!

A couple of very minor suggestions:

I was wondering whether, under the “UK jobs” heading, it would be worth including a link also to other places where UK math jobs may be listed, such as jobs.ac.uk or the TES? People may come to the LMS website looking for job opportunities, and it might be good to provide any potentially useful links (just a thought).

Also, keeping in mind Tim Gowers’s comment about not having to click too often: Under the heading “Grants & Prizes”, perhaps instead of having to click on “Grants” or “Prizes”, it would be possible to just combine the two pages they link to (which both basically consist of another small list).

  4. The section of the old LMS site that I found most useful by far was the links page (with links to the web sites of all the UK maths depts, etc.). I can’t find anything like that on the new site. I hope that something like that page will be reinstated on the new site.

  5. Dear Chris

On the new site maths links can be found at:

  6. Sorry that should read: http://www.lms.ac.uk/content/other-organisations

    • Thanks Isabelle, I’m glad that it’s still there. But the navigation is terrible. From the front http://www.lms.ac.uk page, you have to click on “MATHEMATICS” (not the most helpful heading), then on “Other organisations”, and finally on “List of mathematical departments in UK universities”. Room for improvement there, I think.

(Even then, I didn’t find the link that I was actually looking for, namely the St Andrews site on history of maths.)

  7. Greetings Isabelle! The old site was hard to navigate but Search generally found things if they were there. There seems to be no Search on the new site. I needed the names of the current Book Reviews Editors, and found only with difficulty.

  8. I am happy to confirm that the search facility (part of phase 1.2 of the upgrade project) will be made live next week.
